Background Information

The Park covers 392 km2 and lies at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro, Africa’s’ highest mountain. Vegetation is mainly open wooded grassland and swamps.

The park has over 50 species of herbivores and carnivores, including an elephant population (whose individuals are known by name, age and sex!). Hundreds of bird species as well as reptiles and amphibians.
